The Money Advice Service

The Money Advice Service is an independent advice organisation, here to help everyone understand and manage their money better.

Whatever the situation with your finances, it’s good to know where you stand and that you are making the most of what you have. The health check, a new online money adviser from the Money Advice Service, is for everyone.

Taking just 10 minutes to answer some straightforward questions on the health check will give you a personalised action plan to help you sort out your money priorities now, and plan for the future – whatever your goals may be. Best of all - it’s free and it’s unbiased.

Citizens Advice

Citizens Advice Bureaux (CABx) offer independent and confidential advice on issues such as debt, money problems and welfare benefits. For more information on advice and services and how to get in contact with your nearest local bureau, visit their website.

Citizens Advice also produce Adviceguide, which brings you the self-help information you need to solve your problems.

Credit Action

Credit Action is a national money education charity, offering a range of resources, tools and training to help everybody handle their money well. These include free online guidance on budgeting and dealing with debt.

National Debtline

National Debtline is a national telephone helpline for people with debt problems in England, Wales and Scotland. We give expert advice over the telephone and via email and send callers in debt a self-help information pack free of charge. The service is free, confidential and independent.

Debt Advice Foundation

Debt Advice Foundation is a registered national debt advice and education charity offering free, confidential support and advice to anyone worried about loans, credit and debt. Because we're a debt charity, you can be sure that the advice we provide is impartial and based solely on what is best for you.

Our free debt advice helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm on 0800 043 40 50.


GOV.UK is the official UK government run website for citizens, which offers information and advice on a number of issues including, money management, welfare benefits and debt.

Other services

If you have arrears on your gas, electricity or water bills then you may be able to apply to a utility company trust fund to have these debts repaid on your behalf. You will need to apply through a recognised money advice agency.
